Description:

You want to learn how to paint watercolor, free and loose? Join me for my class.

I believe in the basics. We will learn how to incorporate the principals of design along with the elements of design.

This class is for the people who want to learn. I use the elements for the basic tools we use to paint. And the Principles are the rules that we sometimes apply. Along with this we have lots of fun.

My classes are for all levels. If you are a beginner the class will be a great learning experience. For the intermediate and experienced painters it will be a bold adventure.

Each person will work on individual paintings. I will supply photos or you can bring your own. I try to tell you, in advance, what we will be doing so you can decide whether to bring your own photos or sketches or use my photos.

About Your Instructor

As a native of very flat Illinois, my fascination with mountains and oceans is understandable. I have been in California for many years now and my love of the the countryside and especially the mountains and the ocean seems to grow by the day. I get excited by the roar of the water and the colors of the rocks.

After retiring from many years teaching on the secondary school level, my love of teaching art led to a part time job of teaching adult school, allowing time to devote to my paintings. Whatever excites my eye will become a subject of a painting. I carry a sketch book with me and make quick sketches that may later become paintings. I use watercolor, acrylic, collage and other mixed media, whatever seems to transfer my visions and get the emotions to the paper and to the eye of the beholder. I enjoy blending the colors and create the motion that we see. Everything is transitory and nothing is stagnant. What we see today in a certain light will assume different perspectives in a new and brighter or duller natural light. My own moods also color the views that I see and how I interpret them. My paintings are the subjects I see and the emotions I feel expressed with color and texture.
